May Spring Bridge Tour |
May 18, 2008, 10AM. The Old National Road Tour. Explore the many old bridges and other historic sites along old Route 40 between Licking County and Wheeling. We will visit old stone arch, S-Bridges, wooden covered and metal truss bridges. In some places we will drive on the actual brick remains of the old National Road, our first "Interstate". July Picnic |
The July 20, 2008 gathering is our annual picnic and meeting held at the Salt Creek Covered Bridge in Muskingum Co. Please bring your own table service and a covered-dish to share with the group. Also, we recommend that you bring a folding chair. |

August 26 Dedication of Ashtabula County Bridge #17 |
The opening and naming of the longest covered bridge (600 ft, 4-span) in the US. Event will take place at the south end of the bridge, August 26 at 2:30 PM. See their website for more information. | Click here for a map to the bridge. |
September 28 Dedication of the Mill Branch Covered Bridge |
The Covered Bridge (35-84-17) at the Barlow Fairgrounds, Washington, County, will be dedicated on Sept 28, 2008 at 1:00 PM. The annual Barlow Fair, which is the oldest fair in the state, will be taking place at the same time but you do not need to pay to enter the fair to attend the dedication of the bridge. | Click here for a map to the bridge. |

May Spring Bridge Tour |
The spring tour will include the recent covered bridge construction sites in Union County and also visit historic bridges in Union and Logan Counties. The Union county CE is building two new Pratt Truss Covered bridges that should be near completion by the time of the tour. We will meet May 20th at the westbound US 33 rest area located just west of Bellefontaine at 10:00 AM |

July Picnic |
The July 15th gathering is our annual picnic and meeting held at the Salt Creek Covered Bridge in Muskingum Co. Special event: This year we will have an invited speaker, Rudy Christian, the timber framer who helped with the Salt Creek rehabilitation. He will talk about how a covered bridge is fabricated, using the Salt Creek Bridge as an example. This should be a unique opportunity to learn more about the construction of covered bridges. Please bring your own table service and a covered-dish to share with the group. Also, we recommend that you bring a folding chair. |

August Fall Bridge Tour |
Note: the month of the Fall tour is changed from September to August for this occasion. The Fall Bridge tour will visit the HAER/ Smithsonian Institution Traveling Exhibition about Covered Bridges at the Preble County Historical Society, August 19. Click SITES for more information about this exhibit. The exhibition will be open from 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM so you may plan your arrival to fit your own schedule. There are other historical exhibits at the site to see so allow at least 2 hrs. Miriam Wood, David Simmons and Bill Miller will make a presentation in the Sunday Afternoon Lecture Series starting at 2:00 PM as part of this event. An optional morning bridge tour of four historic covered bridges and a beautiful 1867 stone bridge in Greene County will complement the exhibition for those wanting a full day of events. This tour will include a lunch stop and end at the Preble County Historical Society in time to attend the other events. The tour guide is available (right column) for preview.
The Greene County tour will start
9:00 AM at Young's Jersey Dairy, 6880 Springfield-Xenia Rd (US-68),
Springfield, Ohio. Meet under the big cow! (The dairy
opens for breakfast at 6:00 AM for those wishing to eat there before
the tour). We will tour 5
bridges and then drive together to the Preble County HS. |

Fall Bridge Tour of Preble County. Meet at the McDonalds at 2373 Dayton-Germantown Pike. (SR 4 and SR 725) It is 1.5 miles NE of Germantown on Sept 17, 2006 at 10:00 AM. We will stop for lunch at Eaton. Pack a lunch or eat at the Preble County Pork Festival (free parking and admission) Details RIDESHARE: If you are from central Ohio and want to share a ride I will have room for 2 passengers. Contact Ron Also contact me if you can share a ride from another location (so we can save some gas and have some company).
